# Using Maia on Mac or Non-Windows Devices (via Windows Remote Desktop)

## How to run mAIscribe’s Maia app securely from your Mac, home laptop, or other computers outside your clinic

If you’re a doctor who accesses your EMR via **Remote Desktop** (now called **Windows App**), you can still fully use **Maia**, your Medical AI Assistant from mAIscribe.

You don’t need a Windows PC at home or on-site — as long as you run your EMR in a remote Windows environment, Maia will work.

### What this setup allows

- **Use Maia from a Mac or laptop**
- **Syncs with your EMR remotely** (via Windows App / RDP)
- **Works outside the clinic** (e.g., from home, aged care, or while mobile)
- **Full access to features** like Service Opportunities and data sync

### What you'll need

- Internet access
- Access to EMR via **Remote Desktop (RDP)** or the new **Windows App**
- Installation of Maia **inside the Windows environment** (not your Mac directly)

### How to install Maia in this setup

#### 1. **Open your Remote Desktop (Windows App)**

Log in to your Windows environment where you normally access your EMR.

#### 2. **Install Maia directly inside that Windows session**

Just like at the clinic, follow our regular install steps **from within the remote Windows desktop**.

**Note:** You **don’t** need to install the RDP Connector tool in this case — just the main Maia app.

#### 3. **Log in to Maia inside Windows**

Use your usual mAIscribe email and password. Maia will run in the background (you’ll see the flask icon in the system tray).

#### 4. **Run mAIscribe in your local browser** (Chrome or Edge on your Mac)

You’ll open the usual mAIscribe URL: [https://maiscribe.au](https://maiscribe.au) from Chrome or Edge, in your local machine (Mac), while Maia runs inside your Windows session in the background.

#### 5. **Expected behaviour**

When you begin a recording in mAIscribe ([read here about how to use Maia),](https://help.maiscribe.com.au/how-to-use-the-emr-sync-tool-with-your-emr?hsLang=en) it will switch between the mAIscribe screen to your EMR on your remote desktop — Maia is acting as your agent, clicking between the screens to view the data.

After that happens, you can minimise the Windows App and go back to mAIscribe to continue the consultation.

### 🔐 A note on security

All data continues to run and sync **locally inside the Windows environment** (even though you’re using a Mac). No data is stored or synced via your personal device.
