What are Service Opportunities?

Discover how Service Opportunities help you identify relevant MBS services to improve billing efficiency and support patient care

What is it?

Service Opportunities is a new feature within the Assistant panel designed to surface relevant MBS items you might otherwise miss.

Service Opportunities is currently available for GPs.
If EMR sync is not utilised, it will surface items based on the content of the ongoing consultation.

ServOpps plus EMR Context side by side no mbs helperIt works by using information already documented in:

  • Past conditions/ Medical History

  • Billing history

  • Medicare criteria (e.g. demographics)

What does it look like?

By default the list will show a shortlist of relevant items.
You can click "View All Opportunities" to expand to see the full list of items or click the drop down arrow.

What details will it show:

ServOpps - showing more info about specific opportunity

    • Total value of MBS item - if bulk billed, the rebate associated with that MBS Item
    • Uplift - the potential value difference for the doctor compared to billing just a standard consultation (item 23)
    • Matched criteria - based on medicare rules, what are the matching criteria for this item
  • A link to the MBS Rules - Find more details about the Item, including a link to the Medicare page

How to best utilise the Service Opportunities tool:

We've found that the doctors who make the most of the Service Opportunities review them either right before calling the patient in, or at the beginning of the consultation.

The items can be used as a reference for things you may choose to consider during or after the consult.

Example:

Let's say you are seeing a patient to discuss results for some tests, but you notice via Service Opportunities that the patient may be due for a review of their care plan - that may be something you choose to address after discussing the results.

Once you've reviewed the items, plan your time with the patient by clicking:

  • Appropriate  – pins the item to the top of the list for easy reference

  • Not Relevant – moves the item to the bottom of the list

    • If this was a mistake, you can reconsider - clicking the "Reconsider" link it will bring this item back to the options
