What’s New in mAIscribe 2.0

Discover what's new in this version and what it means for you. Explore the major UI and feature updates in mAIscribe 2.0, including the introduction of Maia, Action Assistant, and more powerful billing support

mAIscribe 2.0 marks a major leap forward - from a smart scribe into a full Clinical Efficiency Platform.

It’s designed to reduce clicks, surface what matters most, and free you from admin so you can focus on what matters: your patients.

We’re bringing you automation that removes busywork, optimisation that lifts billings, and insights that keep care front and centre.

Whether you’re on the full 2.0 experience or not, this update lays the foundation for what’s coming - deeper insights, more automation, and support for more EMRs and specialties.

Note: The full 2.0 experience is available for GPs using Best Practice on Windows. Expanding to other EMRs and macOS are in the roadmap.

What's new?

Maia  - your Medical AI Agent (MAIA)

Maia is a light, secure app that brings context into your consult.

It works locally and privately to pull in structured EMR data, including:

  • Medical history, medications, allergies
  • Billing history and relevant past item numbers
  • Demographics (age, gender, etc.)
  • Informing the Action Assistant features that highlight your billing opportunities (see MBS Helper and Service Opportunities)

⚠️ Don’t use Best Practice? Let us know your EMR and we’ll let you know when syncing is available.

A Fresh, More Functional UI

The interface is now organised into four smart columns - making it easier to access everything you need at a glance.

Left Panel: Medical Record

If Maia is enabled, this panel will auto-populate. These sections are collapsible for easier navigation.

  • Allergies

  • Medications

  • Past History

  • Billing History - this won't show all past items (e.g. won't show all the items 23 and 36), just the higher value items.

    • Items in green = up to date
    • Items in orange = due for review
    • Items in red = overdue for review

These help provide quick clinical context before or during the consultation.

Middle-Left: Context Boxes

This is still the same powerful Context feature that we had before, learn more here.

  • Today’s Context: Add notes you prefer not saying out loud or specific instructions for the AI.

  • Past Context: Summarise relevant background or bring forward previous consult notes.

Middle-Right: Scribe Interface

LiveScribe shows the note being built as you speak - providing real-time feedback and reassurance that nothing is missed. You then also have the other tabs available for the other document types:

  • Summary (refined note for EMR)

  • Letter (referral or care summary)

  • Summary for Patient (lay-language explanation)

Right: Action Assistant

This new panel brings together powerful decision-support tools:

  • Service Opportunities:
Analyses EMR (currently BP supported) + current consult in real time to suggest additional services you may clinically offer (e.g. care plan reviews). Each includes MBS rebate, the billing uplift, reasoning, and patient-friendly suggested approach to it. You can also access links to Medicare resources to review the rules for the recommended items.

  • MBS Helper:
Automatically appears once a summary is generated, suggesting the best combination of eligible item numbers based on time, complexity and content of the consult.

Service Opportunities and MBS Helper are currently available only for GPs.

New home for MBS Helper

You’ll still find MBS Helper, now nested in the right column. It quietly waits until a summary is complete and then suggests MBS items - ensuring nothing is missed and boosting compliance and billing accuracy.

Works just like before, but better positioned and now more responsive.
